Return of A2 Steam Train to Warragul A highlight of the 2016/17 year for the Rotary Club of Warragul was the return of the A2 986 Steam Engine to Warragul after approximately 30 years of restoration work by Steamrail Victoria at the Newport Rail Yards. On May 13th the engine and several vintage carriages pulled into Warragul Station to be met by several thousand spectators. The engine was officially named “The Spirit of Warragul” and a plaque was unveiled by former Rotarian Bruce Young and local train enthusiast Greig Wilson. “The Spirit of Warragul” Festival, run in conjunction with the arrival of the A2 986 was a huge success. The success of the festival was the result of wonderful co-operation between many local groups including the Warragul Rotary Club, the Warragul Business Group, Baw Baw Shire Council officers, Steamrail Victoria, Baw Baw Poet’s group, the C.W.A., the West Gippsland Art Alliance, the Scouts and the Warragul Municipal Band.
